How to Open Mazda Key Fob

The first thing you'll need to do in order to change your key fob battery is to open the Mazda key fob. It sounds easy, but this is one of the steps that actually throws people off. It's not apparent just by sight how the car remote opens.

To open the key fob for replacing the battery, use the following steps:

  1. Prepare a small flat head screwdriver by wrapping tape around the head. This will prevent damage to your key fob, especially the rubber ring inside the battery compartment. If that gets damaged, you'll have to replace it.

  2. Look for the auxiliary key button on the back of the key fob. Press that button, and you'll be able to remove the metal auxiliary key. Go ahead and do that.

  3. Once the metal key is out of the way, you'll be able to see a slot on either side of the key fob case.

  4. Using the tape wrapped flat head screwdriver, pry open the case, first on one side, and then on the other. Again, be careful not to damage the key fob.

  5. Once the case is open, place the piece you pulled off somewhere you won't lose it while you continue with the steps for replacing the remote key battery.

Mazda Key Fob Battery Replacement

Now that your key fob is open, it should be relatively quick and easy to replace the Mazda key fob battery.

Here's how to change the battery in a Mazda key fob:

  1. Now that the Mazda key fob battery is fully exposed, you can simply pull it out. Note that there is a small rubber ring beneath the battery. Be careful not to damage it.

  2. If the rubber ring is damaged, you'll need to replace it before you can put in a new battery.

  3. Place the replacement battery on top of the rubber ring inside the key fob. When you put it in, make sure the positive side with the plus sign faces up where you can see it.

  4. Finally, put the battery cover back on properly, and reattach both sides of the key fob case. You should press down on the case on both sides until you hear them click into place in the slots.

And that's it. Pretty simple.
