What is Mazda's i-ACTIVSENSE®

Mazda's i-ACTIVSENSE® is a suite of advanced driver assistance technologies designed to help drivers avoid accidents or reduce the severity of collisions if they do occur. The system uses a variety of sensors, including cameras, radar, and ultrasonic sensors that monitor the vehicle's surroundings and warn the driver of potential hazards. The system also has the capabilities to take corrective action to avoid a collision, such as applying the brakes or steering the vehicle away from danger.

i-ACTIVSENSE® includes a number of different features, some of which are standard on all Mazda vehicles and others of which are available as options. These features include:

  • Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM): This system uses radar sensors to detect vehicles in the driver's blind spot. If a vehicle is detected, a warning light will illuminate in the side mirror. If the driver then signals to change lanes, the warning light will flash and an audible alert will sound.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA): This system uses radar sensors to detect vehicles approaching from behind when the vehicle is in reverse. If a vehicle is detected, a warning light will illuminate on the rearview mirror. If the driver then starts to back up, the warning light will flash and an audible alert will sound.
  • Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS): This system uses a camera to detect lane markings on the road. If the vehicle starts to drift out of its lane without signaling, a warning light will illuminate on the instrument panel.
  • High Beam Control (HBC): This system uses a camera to detect oncoming headlights and automatically switches to low beams to avoid dazzling other drivers.
  • Smart City Brake Support (SCBS): This system uses a radar sensor to detect vehicles in front of the vehicle. If the system detects that a collision is imminent, it will automatically apply the brakes to help reduce the severity of the collision.
  • Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC): This system uses a radar sensor to detect vehicles in the front and if the system detects that a vehicle is following too closely, it will automatically apply the brakes to maintain a safe following distance or accelerate the vehicle to maintain a set speed.
  • Forward Obstruction Warning (FOW): This system uses a radar sensor to detect vehicles or other obstacles in front and if the system detects an obstacle, a warning light will illuminate on the instrument panel.
  • Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS): This system uses a camera to detect the road conditions and automatically adjusts the headlights to provide better visibility.

i-ACTIVSENSE® is a valuable tool for drivers who want to ensure safety while on the road. The system can help drivers avoid accidents and reduce the severity of collisions if they do occur. If you are considering a new Mazda with us, be sure to ask about the i-ACTIVSENSE® system.
